Course for Change
Business Model, Theory of Change
Course for Change operates a community-based mentorship program that empowers
youth ages 12–18, particularly those from low-income or at-risk backgrounds, by
training them to complete the physical and personal challenge of a half-marathon.
Our model pairs students with consistent, caring mentors and uses distance
running—not as a competitive sport—but as a tool to build discipline, resilience, and
self-worth. No prior running experience is required; students progress at their own pace,
even walking. The true goal is not athletic achievement, but personal growth, identity
development, and increased hope.
Biggest Organizational Needs
Our key levers for growth include expanding strategic partnerships, training mentor
teams in more communities, securing sustainable funding sources, and leveraging
data-driven storytelling to demonstrate impact.
Redemptive Opportunity
Course for Change exists to bring hope to youth in Oklahoma City who have experienced
trauma, instability, and circumstances that often lead to overlooking their potential. Our
model uses the creative act of distance running—something simple yet deeply
transformative—as a pathway to restoration through goal setting, mentorship, and
identity formation. It is a redemptive venture because it meets youth in their brokenness
and walks with them—literally and figuratively—toward healing, confidence, and renewed
purpose.
